Kara Schoeman
Fine Art Oeuvre
Kara Schoeman is The Artist behind Kara Artistics. Kara Artistics is a collaboration between Kara Schoeman and her Father Stephan Schoeman. He is a Foundry artist in Bloemfontein, South Africa. She is a Fine Artist who specialises in glass sculptures, metal sculptures and interactive video installations. Together they cast recycled aluminium into elaborate designs. These designs frequently depict different species and their slow decline into extinction due to the human impact on their environment. I further incorporate psychology to this concept in order to create various sculptures. These sculptures display human pride regarding our control over the environment, but at the same time our guilt and fear towards the environment. This fear stems from our concern that the environment might reject humans due to our parasitic-like symbiotic relationship to the ecology. We fear our extinction along the path to environmental sustainability.
Kara Schoeman is a Free State based artist who graduated with a BA Fine Art Degree (Cum laude) from the University of the Free State in 2016. Thereafter she graduated with a BA Honours degree in Psychology at the University of the Free State in 2017. During her studies, Schoeman was awarded the best Fine Art student of her year group for three consecutive years. She was also awarded the best over all Art History student in 2015. Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions in galleries such as the Johannes Stegmann Art Gallery, Oliewenhuis Art Museum, Map Gallery, UJ Art Gallery, Young Blood Art Gallery, Gallery on Leviseur, ABSA Gallery, and Design Indaba.
